EXTERIOR BARN WOOD
BARN WOOD
EXTERIOR BARN WOOD Exterior barn wood boards have a beautiful rich patina which was created by many years of sun, wind, rain and freezing temperatures baring down upon them. Board characteristics reflect their environment. All sides of a barn are effected by weather differently. One side may be exposed to the harsh sun longer, creating a more bleached out tone. One side may be shaded by a tree or another building creating a deep, rich color closer to its original brown. One side may be exposed to the hard north wind and take the brute force of driving rains and freezing temperatures causing a rougher texture and deeper more weathered coloring. Sometimes vegetation near the wood adds to its coloring. Boards near pine trees often take on a greenish hue from years of pine pollen settling on them. Grain patterns and surface textures vary from board to board giving them each their own unique look. This avalanche of environmental conditions results in a wide variety of textures with a wealth of hues in grey, brown and green.

KNOTS
KNOT   WALL OF KNOTSKNOTS. Knots, put simply, are caused by tree growth that has surrounded an area where a branch use to be or they may be caused by other abnormal growth within the tree. I will refer to knots as the inward abnormalities that can only be seen when the wood is sliced. Knots add an attractive and fun aesthetic to new boards. Knots in barn wood boards take the appeal to whole new level... exotic and enchanting!

  REBIRTH
These once proud barns have been around, many times, for over one hundred years. To give their beautiful wood a new life in artwork is a passion of mine. Every knot and every weathered grain of wood is a gift and a treasure waiting to be reborn.
